Eloira is a very effective contraceptive method. By providing Eloira for your clients, you can help achieve the following:
• |
Avoiding unsafe abortion: Effective contraception prevents unintended pregnancies, which are often ended by unsafe abortions. Unsafe abortions cause nearly 80,000 maternal deaths each year. |
• |
Limiting risks of pregnancy and childbirth: Unintended pregnancy needlessly exposes women to health risks, especially if good obstetric care is unavailable. |
• |
Limiting pregnancy to the healthiest ages: Childbearing is safer for women between the ages of 20 and 40. |
• |
Limiting the number of births: Women who give birth four times or more face dramatically higher maternal health risks |
• |
Family planning can assure at least two years between pregnancies: Spacing pregnancies more than two years apart helps women have healthier children and increases their chances of survival by 50%. |
• |
When women limit births to their healthiest reproductive years, they have healthier babies: Women under age 20 and over 40 are much more likely than other women to have babies who die in infancy. |
• |
Spacing births helps assure that babies are adequately breastfed: Breastfeeding saves the lives of about 6 million children each year. |
• |
Women who have access to good-quality family planning can make reproductive choices: For some women, control over their own fertility opens the door to other important choices and opportunities. |
• |
Family planning helps women delay motherhood in order to complete education: Unless sexually active young women use contraception, they face a risk that young men do not face: that they will become pregnant and have to discontinue their education. |
• |
Families with fewer children are more likely to educate their daughters as well as their sons: When families are smaller, their resources tend to be distributed more equally among sons and daughters. |
• |
Family planning programs help people avoid STIs: They offer communication, education and counseling that encourage adoption of safer sexual behavior, including delayed sexual initiation, monogamy and condom use. |
• |
Programs that encourage safer sexual behavior can be good public health investment: Governments and health care providers could shift resources to meeting other needs for health care, education and development. |
• |
Supporting family planning programs helps to slow population growth: As more couples plan births, fertility falls and population growth slows, thus easing human pressures on the environment |
• |
Slowing population growth relieves pressures on many natural resources: Slower population growth relieves environment pressures by: |
• Easing demand for water |
• Preserving arable land |
• Limiting pollution |
• Reducing the burden on cities |
• Averting conflicts over resources |
• |
Slowing population growth buys time for a country to invest in development: As population growth slows, a country can provide better jobs and schooling. As productivity, savings and investment rise, so can living standards. |
• |
Slowing population growth helps countries achieve economic development without despoiling the environment: Development agencies and those concerned with the environment now agree that a healthy economy can exist together with a healthy environment. |
Eloira releases a significantly smaller dose of levonorgestrel into the uterine cavity as compared to the dose of levonorgestrel ingested as part of oral hormonal contraception. Eloira releases as low as 20 micrograms of levonorgestrel per day as compared to the 150 micrograms present in each pill of the low-dose monophasic combined oral contraceptive. This in addition to the local release (vis-a-vis systemic release in the case of oral contraceptives) results in a lower serum concentration of levonorgestrel.
Eloira causes considerably lesser side effects than the oral contraceptive pills.
Since Eloira does not require daily action on the part of the client for successful contraception, it is often seen as more convenient and private as compared to oral contraceptive pills which require daily dosing thereby requiring stocking and easy availability of pills with the client.
Condoms need to be placed on the penis during sexual intercourse once it is erect. Since Eloira does not require any action on the part of the client for successful contraception, it is often seen as more convenient than condoms. Condoms require correct and consistent use, which may lead to problems of availability, stocking and privacy and disposal.
Eloira is more effective than copper IUDs (both T-shaped and U-shaped). Due to its hormonal content, Eloira causes a reduction in blood loss during the normal menstrual bleeding. This helps prevent or reduce the severity of anemia.
1. |
Eloira is a novel Levonorgestrel Intrauterine System (LNG-IUS) consisting of 52 mg of levonorgestrel in a cylindrical reservoir on a small polyethylene frame |
2. |
Eloira is an extremely safe and effective reversible contraceptive, preventing pregnancy in 99.8% women in first year of use. The contraceptive effect lasts for up to 5 years. |
3. |
Eloira releases as low as 20 micrograms of LNG per day into the uterine cavity. Therefore it does not have any major systemic side effects. |
4. |
Additionally Eloira significantly reduces menstrual blood loss and hence will also be suitable for your anaemic clients. |
5. |
Unlike combined hormonal contraceptives Eloira can be used in the lactation period after six weeks postpartum. |
6. |
Eloira has an easy Loading and insertion technique. |
7. |
Eloira has the thinnest insertion tube in its category, which significantly reduces the need for dilation of cervix during insertion. Consequently most women will report lower pain during insertion, thereby improving satisfaction with the system. |
